Sources of inspiration |
Working with sound and vision in the theatre realy inspires. Naturally
it is a great challenge to collect and read as much information about
the subject as possible. |

Robert L. Mott - Sound Effects: Radio, Tv, and Film |
|
|
A book by Robert L. Mott that is not (yet) in my collecion. Stumbled
into it
on the internet but haven't red it. Based on the description it seems
to deal with various acoustical sound devices and effects. Might be
some kind of standard work about the subject but for now I just think
it is too pricey to order it and find out. If someone can lend (or
sell) me their copy,
I'm very interested although.

Piet Ekel - 'n Luisterrijk Verleden |
|
|
A book by Piet Ekel (AKA 'Malle Pietje' in the popular TV-series
'Swiebertje' way back in the sixties) about the history of radio
drama and audio theater in the Netherlands. There is almost no
technical
information about how the sound effects where generated. I like the
book very much although because it is a historical (and sometimes
sentimental) journey back in
time. A must read if you want to know more about this wonderful art and
the impact it had before or just after television made its
entrance. |
Chris Middleton - Digitale Audio |
|
|
I found this book at one of those book outlets in the city where they
dump really cheap books. Originally a book in the English language
translated into Dutch. It covers an high-level exploration of the
digital possibilities of sound and music recording and editing. Part of
the book is a description of some popular commercial sound editing
programs. Might get outdated quite soon because this field is very
dynamic. It gives a nice review although of the types of applications
and the theory of digital audio. |
O'Reilly - Learing Carbon |
|
|
A 100% technical book about software programming. Useful for the development of our own application Foley OS X/Linux for Macintosh OS X. There is also a lot of information about OS X and Carbon on the web. |
Aaron Hillegass - Cocoa Programming for Mac OS X |
|
|
Second EditionApplications running under OS X can be either 'procedural' (Carbon) or
'Object
Oriented'. The latter can be achieved by using Cocoa as the programming
language. Applications build in Cocoa are 100% native OS X. A drawback
could be that it will be more difficult to port the application over to
another operation system with a procedural API (Application Programming
Interface) like Linux. Perhaps it is a good idea to develop Foley OS X/Linux
directly in Cocoa. Because the development of the application is still in
progress this book might turn out to be very valuable as a reference. |
