Who is Arnoud van Delden?

When Arnoud was 5 years old his parents gave him a magic-box for his birthday. Since then the temptation of the 'the theatre' and stage arts has not been out of his life. Only nine years old he already found his way to the Dutch teacher/inspirator of world famous magicians like Fred Kaps and Richard Ross: Henk Vermeyden. Sadly only one year after Mr. Vermeydens death (1990), Arnoud first tried his luck on a national magic competition. Not without success: He won the 'Henk Vermeyden'-price because he was the overall winner of the competition. For two successive years he got the highest prices in Close-up magic and then tried his luck in London at Ron MacMillans magic-convention. From the hands of Paul Daniels (another well known magician) he got an award of merrit for his act. Besides his magical interests, he soon got fascinated by the American revue, the old English vaudeville and slapstick movies. Nowadays Arnoud still has his passion for circus, juggling and magic but moved in the direction of theatrical animation, mime, improv-theatre and theatresports.

Although 'the theatre', playing with magic tricks, painting and sketching shaped his youth, he chose a technical education (via electronics and computer technique straight into Information Technology). This resulted in a rare mix of both artistic and technical capabilities and interests. Nowadays Arnoud calls himself an 'interaction designer'. Since 1998 he's busy with functional programming and interactive design for DVD's, cd-rom and the internet (i.e. websites) in his own one-mans company Whizzart. In an ever lasting effort to combine as much interests as possible, he already gave many theatrical companies, performers and trainers a place on the web. Recently he uses his Linux and Macintosh computers to assist the judging process at both national and international magic conventions.

After a few courses in stage-improvisation and pantomime, Arnoud joined an improv-troupe in Amsterdam in 1993. Quite soon he was experimenting at the bleeding edge of theatresports with his fellow improv-players. Here he met Ieke, now his wife. Happily ignoring the risk of 'over exposure', he grasped almost every opportunity to play in Amsterdam for some time. This took him to various countries in Europe and the USA (San Francisco) to play theatresports and improvised comedy with many great new friends.

Arnoud's love for the verbal aspects of language does not directy seem to blend in with his interests in a theatrical concept like 'timing', or things like mime or silent movies (Arnoud owns all movies of Laurel & Hardy and helped with a documentary about Stan Laurel). This does not bother him at all. Although some say Arnoud has the timeless 'slapstick' written all over him when on stage, he also likes to experiment with emotion and 'believeable characters' in acting and improv.

The ultimate combination of his theatrical, technical, and now also 'musical' interests can be seen on this website of ImproMedia. After all, operating from the wings with sounds or helping out with the judging process on a theatrical competition are just as much fun!
